A place that combines the legendary story with the unique landscape of the Caldera, the volcanic beaches with turquoise waters, the traditional villages with Cycladic architecture…. & the most romantic sunset!
Wander on this trip, where people with the ”imprint” of the tan on their faces will lead you to hiking trails, to beautiful cruises at the islands of Thirassia & Old Kameni, to picturesque gulfs for water sports… they will serve you with love white wines with a metallic aftertaste due to the subsoil, accompanied with theran mezes!
Day 1st: Fira
Arrival at the port of Santorini, Athinios, where you will be picking up your car. You will be driving towards a traditional settlement with a unique Cycladic architecture, which has been converted into an eco-tourist unit between rocky landscapes, with a view to the sparkling waters of the Aegean. You will settle in your rooms & soon afterwards you may wander around to admire the natural beauties.
There will be lunch or dinner served for you at your accommodation place, where you can enjoy local delicacies! We recommend a stroll at Fira, the island’s capital, where despite the losses caused by the earthquake in 1956, the region retained its character during the reconstruction!
Day 2nd: Vourvoulos – Karterados – Winery visit
Breakfast at your lodge, with organic products. Immediately after that, you may stroll at Fira’s village, which has been built along a steep valley, with a view towards the vineyards of Santorini & the northeast coast of the island. The characteristic of the village is that the houses are being built into the rock! You will be heading to the beach full of sand and pebbles, which is one of the least known, but the waters have an amazing turquoise color.
Then you can drive to the village Karterados, in Exo Gialos. Despite the tourist development of the region, this village continues to be one of the most traditional settlements of Santorini, while there are still houses built into the rocks, known as “carved”. There is a quiet beach with distinctive black sand and crystal clear waters to swim! Return to the hotel in the late afternoon for rest.
Later on, you will be driving up to Pyrgos, where “Santo Wines” is located, a vineyard and a winery, where the characteristic varieties of Assyrtiko, Athiri, Aidani are produced, while adjacent to it, is the Wine Tourism Centre with a view of the volcano and the caldera. You will have the opportunity to watch a short film about the history of wine-making at the vineyard & do some food & wine matching overlooking the sunset… there is also a store where local theran products are being sold such as cherry tomatoes, fava beans, wild caper, caper leaves…
Finishing from there, you may walk around the village, which was the capital of Santorini at the time of the recurrent pirate raids, while at the top the ruins of a Venetian castle still exist. Small narrow alleys, cobbled streets, white cubic houses & many churches that make up the unique atmosphere of the area. Do not forget to pass by the oldest church, Theotokaki, dated back from the 10th century. Drive back to the lodge.
Day 3rd: Cruise – Sunset at Skaros’ Rock
Your day begins with breakfast at your accommodation. Soon after that you will be transferred to the marina at Vlychada, which will be the starting point for the cruise.
You will be visiting the ancient city of Akrotiri, the Red & White beach of the island, where you will get off for swimming. You will be sailing along the mountain, where an Indian Head is formed; you will see the Venetian Lighthouse & then head to the caldera opening the sails of the vessel. You will have the opportunity to see volcanic islands & hot springs, where you will stop for swimming & if you wish there will be equipment on board to do snorkeling! There will be served lunch/ barbeque with meat & fish.
You will continue the journey to Firostefani, Imerovigli- a region that was built at the highest point of the Caldera-, & Oia, a picturesque village on the island between steep cliffs where even today you may observe from far captains’ mansions & countless churches.
Your last stop will be Amoudi late in the afternoon, where there will be disembarkation from the yacht & transfer back to your hotel.
Just before the sunset, you will be going to the Rock of Skaros, a quirky and craggy region at Imerovigli, where you will enjoy the sunset! We will be catering you with a bottle of wine & a snack for your veggera…
Day 4th: Trekking – Perissa – Kamari – picnic – Winery – Vothonas – Messaria – Maritime Museum
Today you may take your time to relax, explore the island on your own or buy some souvenirs for your loved ones. For those of you who love sports and exploring, you may optionally after breakfast, direct to Perissa, where you will do trekking all the way to Kamari! You will be starting with your escort from Perissa, where you will see the Black beach with the spectacular Mesa Vouno. You will pass by the church of Zoodoxos Pigi. Next to the temple it is a unique cave with running waters & stalactites. You will be going by Saint Mary Katefiani and then you will end up to Kamari, from where you may return via a sea kayak to Perissa, it’s a short trip & you will be accompanied by a trainer … During the trekking, you will be offered a small snack made out of theran products.
Your next destination is the Art Space in Exo Gonia, a unique art center in spaces carved in rocks. Within the old winery that was established in 1861, representative works of contemporary painting and sculpture are displayed, offering to the guests the opportunity to get to know the Modern Greek art! You will also try the wines & the unique distillate- raki from Vinsanto produced on the estate…
You will be heading to Vothonas, where a deep gorge is situated. Walking down the canyon, you may find the small chapel of St. Tryphon. The houses in the region are built in volcanic rocks around the church. At the lower entrance of the village is St. Roussos’ church, being built on a rock of holystone. A “well hidden” church is Panagia Sergena.
At Mesaria you will be stopping, where you will admire old mansions that belong to wealthy captains of the 19th century & houses with domes being built in the rock. You will visit Argyros’ mansion, an old vintner, which is one of the few surviving examples of neoclassical architecture in Cyclades. At the visitors’ room in the mansion you may see furniture mainly from western Europe, decorative objects, pictures, paintings, cooking utensils, & many other items that were used in the mansions of that era.
You will be visiting Oia’s Maritime Museum late in the afternoon. Within the exhibits of the museum figureheads, anchors & various small items of daily use of the sailing season are included. Sextants, models & watercolors of old & new ships, tools & designs from Santorini’s arsenals, uniforms & tools of craftsmen. It’s really worthwhile seeing it….
Early in the evening, you will be driving to the castle of St. Nicholas, where you can enjoy the sunset. Return to your hotel at night.
Day 5th: Free Day
You may use the day at your own pace. You may drive to Emporeio, the largest village at the southern part, which has been the commercial port of Santorini. At the southern side, it is situated the hill of Gavrilos, where the remnants of 8 windmills are found, in some of them you may also observe the inner part. Additionally , you may walk around Fira, where you can visit the Museum of Prehistoric Thera & to shop for your friends & family. Do not miss out passing by Ypapantis Road, also called the “Golden Road” because of the many jewelers that are established there. Drive back at your accommodation.
Day 6th: Scuba – Fira
If you are keen on water sports, we can arrange for you to dive with professionals! You will start from Vlychada & with the proper equipment that you will have been supplied, you will do some divings at different areas, such as Aspronisi & Therasia depending on the weather … it’s a nice experience, as long as you want to try it out!
Alternatively, you can go swimming at Perivolos or Amoudi, going down from Oia with donkeys, while the most fearless & athletic ones will walk down about 300 stairs!
At lunch time, we recommend you to choose among the small taverns at Vothonas…
At dusk, you will be visiting Franco’s Bar, Fira, to enjoy a drink in the sun overlooking the Caldera & enjoy the sunset once again…. We will ensure that you have a table reserved as this is not an easy case. Going back & overnight.
Day 7th: Return
After having had breakfast, you will pick up your luggage & leave your rooms. If you have free time, make your last walk & then direct to the port or airport (depending on how you have chosen to travel) for your return journey.
