Mani is the southernmost and middle peninsula of the Peloponnese, a treasure trove of Byzantine and post Byzantine churches, Frankish castles and stunning scenery. The isolated aspect of this beautiful area due to the presence of Taygetos Mountain, combined with the independent nature of its inhabitants meant that some traditions developed separately from the rest of the Peloponnese and Greece so that a distinct society made its mark on the landscape. Nowadays, the architecture of the district is famed for the tower houses & fortified family dwellings from the period of the Ottoman occupation of Greece.
I advise you to explore all the peninsula of Mani till down to the edge Cape Tainaron, where in ancient Greek times was the location of the temple of Poseidon & visit one of the biggest caves in Europe, “Diros Caves”. In Pylos, do not miss out looking around “Neokastro”, the Turkish fortress above the harbor, that contains a splendid small museum in a restored 19th-century barracks. Neokastro also contains a small church (clearly a former mosque), impressive fortification walls & shade trees, beds of vibrant geraniums and roses & fine views over the harbor.
Discover south Methoni and Koroni & visit Domaine Dereskos to taste its wines, the famous one is Avgerinos, the name taken after a greek constellation, produced by a local white variety Roditis frull of fresh fruit aromas. Overnight in the region of Messinia (Kalamata, Achladohori, Pylos, Methoni).

Nowadays, apart from the reminding traces of the past, in Olympia is also located an excellent Archaeological Museum, & the Museum of the Olympic Games.
